HOW TO PROPERLY STORE YOUR CLASSIC PORSHE

Winter is just around the corner, and it’s time to consider where and how you will store your classic Porsche until the weather warms up again. Without proper storage, your vehicle could be exposed to temperatures and conditions that cause excessive wear. In addition to causing the paint to fade, exposure to the elements can also cause clouding of the headlight covers and premature tire weathering. To protect your investment and make sure your beautiful Porsche maintains its gleam, here’s what you should know about proper storage and custom dash covers.

Prep Your Storage Space
Whether you plan to store your classic vehicle in a garage or storage shed, you need to prep the area beforehand. Do this by sweeping the floor thoroughly and laying a tarp or thick poly sheet on the floor to keep rust from developing on the car’s undercarriage. Consider wiping down shelves with a microfiber cloth to remove dust and debris that could damage your car’s exterior.

Cover Your Vehicle

A durable car cover with a soft interior lining will keep your car safe from moisture and dust while in storage. Look for the best truck covers and car covers that are specifically intended to protect the paint of classic cars. If you’re storing your vehicle outside, choose a cover that offers maximum protection from all the elements.

Protect the Interior
In addition to keep your vehicle’s exterior dry and protected, you should also take steps to protect the interior during storage. Custom dash covers and seat covers are just as important during storage as finding the best outdoor car cover. When you’re ready to get your car out of storage, you’ll be glad you took the time to keep its interior clean and fresh.

Check Tire Pressure
When cars are stored for long periods of time, especially in cold weather, they tend to lose tire pressure. To avoid returning to flattened tires, consider slightly overinflating your tires before storage. Adding 8-10 extra psi should be sufficient for most vehicles.

Release the Parking Brake
If you’re storing your car on an incline, use blocks of wood to block the tires instead of activating the parking brake. Otherwise, your brake pads may get stuck to the rotors over time. Using your parking brake for short periods of time is fine, but it isn’t a good idea to employ it for storage.

Keep Rodents Away
Rodents love to make their homes in classic cars, so it’s important to keep them away. You can do this by placing mothballs, mint leaves or bars of Irish Spring soap around the vehicle. You should also close all air vents and stuff steel wool into the exhaust pipe before storing your vehicle for the winter.

Use Baking Soda
Are you worried about the way your vehicle will smell when you take it out of storage? Placing a cookie sheet sprinkled with baking soda on the floor of your vehicle will soak up excess moisture and keep your Porsche fresh even during lengthy storage.
Your Porsche is an investment you want to protect. Keep it fresh, clean and in good condition by storing it properly for the winter.
